Psoriasis Stratification

There are several reasons why psoriasis is a useful model for disease stratification

  • Psoriasis is a common disease – affecting around 1.8 million people in the UK and over 100 million worldwide (see WHO Global report).
  • Biologics are used as monotherapy – so the effects of a single drug can be studied unlike other autoimmune diseases where combination therapy may be used
  • Response to therapy is relatively simple to quantify – any improvement in the disease can be seen on the skin
  • Diseased tissue (skin) sampling is minimally invasive and acceptable to patients
